You may have wondered why Easter centres around eggs and it turns out there may be a very good reason. Yes, that’s correct. Easter may have actually started out as a sex ritual. When you think about it, it kind of makes sense given the saying “having sex like rabbits” and yet as most of us know, rabbits don’t even lay eggs.

At Easter time however we decorate eggs and give them out as presents, or have parties where we hunt for them. So what exactly do eggs have to do with Easter? Basically it all goes back to an old Pagan ritual. Anglo-Saxon pagans celebrated this time, which is known as a period of rebirth by trying to invoke the spirit of Easter or Ostara which was the goddess of spring, dawn and fertility, all of which are essential for ensuring the survival of people or another species. The only way to ensure a new generation or a rebirth was to have sex.

That’s why Pagans would hold festivals in April that would honour the goddess. These festivals would include sex rituals and in some situations, full-on orgies. Back in ancient times the orgies were held to attract ecstasy in the son of Zeus and sex was widely celebrated.

So what exactly does that have to do with the holiday we celebrate today? It’s quite simple. Rather than stopping the Pagan rituals they were simply adapted and converted into the Christian rituals that we are familiar with today. As we know, this new holiday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Eggs became the symbol of rebirth and new life. Rabbits were associated with the holiday because they reproduce quickly and research actually shows that Eostre’s sacred animal symbol was the hare, which is a close relative of the rabbit.

Nowadays we celebrate by decorating eggs, eating chocolate eggs or dressing up as rabbits. This could also explain why some people think it’s sexy to dress up as a sexy bunny. It may go some way to explaining why there are rabbit and egg vibrators. Rabbit vibrators of course have two tips designed to stimulate the clitoris whereas egg vibrators are small and discreet. They also mimic the shape of an egg.

With all of this in mind there are some sex positions we recommend to get into the Easter spirit and have an egg-static time.

Bunny hop: The partner who will penetrate the other partner starts by lying on their back and the receiving partner sits on top with their face to the site. They will be rested on their knees and will then bounce up and down, just like a rabbit. Although similar to the cowgirl the giving/penetrating partner’s hands are free so they can explore, which makes this position even more exciting.

Down the rabbit hole: Rather than opting for a standard session of oral sex, change it up. Both partners will get down on all fours, with one person directly in front of the other. Then the partner at the back will go down on their other partner. You can then switch so the giving partner receives and the receiving partner gives.

That’s sure to make this an Easter to remember.
